Urban Beneficiaries
In urban areas, 12 types of workers qualify for the scheme:
Ragpickers
Beggars
Domestic workers
Street vendors, cobblers, hawkers, or other service providers
Construction workers, plumbers, masons, laborers, painters, welders, security guards, coolies, and other load workers
Sweepers and sanitation workers
Gardeners
Home-based workers, artisans, handicrafts workers, and tailors
Transport workers, drivers, conductors, helpers, cart pullers, and rickshaw pullers
Shop workers, assistants, peons, helpers, delivery assistants, attendants, and waiters
Electricians, mechanics, assemblers, and repair workers
Washermen and watchmen
Although PM-JAY uses the SECC for household eligibility, many states have their own health insurance programs with pre-selected beneficiaries. States can use their databases for PM-JAY but must ensure all families eligible per the SECC are included.
